Representatives of the Royal Thai Government visits Beijing in preparation of the Sojourn in Thailand of the Sacred Toothbone Relic of Lord Buddha from Lingguang Temple, Beijing

     During 14 – 16 November 2024, the Royal Thai Embassy, Beijing, coordinated and facilitated a visit to Beijing by H.E. Mr. Chousak Sirinil, Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office, and a delegation composed of senior officials from various Thai agencies including the Office of the Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Culture, Royal Thai Air Force, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Minister Chousak led the delegation in paying courtesy call upon H.E. Mr. Chen Ruifeng, Director of the National Religious Affairs Administration of China, Venerable Master Chang Zang, Abbot of Lingguang Temple, as well as conducting site survey at Lingguang Temple and Beijing Capital International Airport.

     This visit to Beijing was in preparation of the Sojourn in Thailand of the Holy Toothbone Relic of Lord Buddha from Lingguang Temple, which will be escorted to Bangkok on 4 December 2024 and enshrined for public worship at the Sanam Luang (Royal Field) in Bangkok for 73 days, before escorted back to Beijing on 15 February 2024.

     The Royal Thai Government and the Government of the People’s Republic of China agreed to carry out this special activity as part of the Celebrations on the Auspicious Occasion of His Majesty the King’s 6th Cycle Birthday Anniversary 28th July 2024, and to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Thai – Chinese Diplomatic Relations in 2028, considering Buddhism as being among important aspects of relations between the two countries.
